AcuGroup co‑founders Franco and Jonah have been helping people get out of pain for thirty years, working together and running a pain clinic for twenty of those. The AcuGroup Method is the result of that collaboration.
Grounded in precise dry needling, it is informed by contemporary science in the fields of pain and movement, and broadened through behavioral and motivational frameworks. It’s what we think works best in the treatment of pain, especially pain with muscular or neuromuscular contributors, using all the knowledge and practice we’ve accumulated. The following are the pillars of that method: the AcuGroup Method Ten Guiding Principles.
These principles shape how we assess, treat, and support each person we work with, whether we’re addressing musculoskeletal pain, athletic performance, or lifestyle goals.
We start by seeing a person and asking ourselves how we can help. Following First, Do No Harm, we commit to safety first and pursue the best care we can offer. We build strong, lasting relationships with our patients. Your goals and concerns guide your care, and we’re here to listen, explain, and help you move forward.
We draw from multiple disciplines and clinical traditions to create a cohesive plan. Our providers collaborate with each other and your broader healthcare team when needed. We treat the whole person by recognizing the physical, emotional, and environmental factors that affect health and healing.
We measure results and adjust your care accordingly. Each plan is designed to evolve as we learn what works best for you.
We use direct techniques—palpation, needling, manual therapy, bodywork, and therapeutic laser—to engage both soft tissue and the nervous system for meaningful, lasting change. We are artisans practicing a manual art, mastering our instruments (needles, fingers, and so on) and developing expert sensitivity to the body and tissue. Our needling style is a hybrid of trigger point acupuncture and modern dry needling that we call bodywork with needles.
Muscles and joints matter, but so do the nerves: ones that surround muscle to sense and respond to movement and stretch, ones that carry or modulate pain signals, and the brain responses that determine how much it hurts. Our care calms irritated or sensitized neuromuscular connections with precise needling and light therapy, and, when appropriate, remote telehealth consultation for patient education and at-home therapies to help the brain dial down sensitivity to pain or “loud” pain messages.
We’re here to help you get back to the activities you love, whether that’s playing an instrument, shooting hoops, or returning to the gym. Our goal is to help you move better, feel stronger, and enjoy daily life again.
Restoring your ability to do what you love isn’t just rewarding, it’s often the key to lasting pain relief and long-term recovery.
We’re experts in healing, and we know how to put someone in the best position to get better. Our treatments help stimulate the body’s built-in repair processes from tissue recovery to nervous system regulation and pain modulation.
We help you clarify what matters most, and we keep treatment focused on meaningful progress toward those goals.
Sleep, stress, activity, and daily patterns all affect recovery. We work with you to shift out of reinforcing cycles and into habits that support resilience.
We believe the more patients know the better their care is. We explain our understanding of what’s going on and how your care works, so you can make informed choices. And we keep learning, too: our team stays current with research and training in our fields of focus. We seek to empower patients beyond the treatment room.
These principles reflect the care we deliver every day. They help us provide consistent, intelligent, and human-centered treatment, so that every patient gets the benefit of a thoughtful, collaborative method that works.
